Midland Red: Staff Information
Can we Help?
MidlandRed.net frequently receives requests for help in tracing details of friends or family who work, or once worked for Midland Red. Unfortunately, this website has no official connection with Midland Red, or the various offspring companies, and therefore we do not have access to company records.
Certain members of staff, usually directors and senior managers, sometimes feature in books about Midland Red, and some staff may be mentioned in old company newsletters. Where this is the case, we will try to include this information in the website, but for the vast majority of the staff, I’m sorry to say we cannot help.
What are the Odds?
If you do wish to trace details of former staff members, please bear in mind the following points…
- Between 1954 and 1964, Midland Red had over 8,400 members of staff… That’s a lot of records to keep, most will have been lost by now.
- In 1973, six depots in the Birmingham area were sold to West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (WMPTE) and another two closed. At this time 1,396 members of staff transferred to WMPTE.
- In 1981, Midland Red closed and split up into several smaller companies. At this time, the company headquarters closed and many records would have been lost or destroyed. Details of serving staff would have passed to the new companies.
- Even in the unlikely event that records do survive, data protection would most likely apply and whoever holds the records will be unwilling to release them.
