Truro bus station

Post by MattW » 19:12 Saturday 25th November 2017

I promise there is a link to WR in these pics. Been a while since I photographed anything, so took advantage of a free day while on holiday. Not a bad location, plenty of variety but sun low in the sky of course so some angles not possible.

Thanks, Matt - some really good pictures there and quite a variety too.

As I noticed on a trip to Cornwall earlier this year, First Kernow really seems to have pulled its socks up by lowering the age of its fleet and smartening it up as well. For a few years before that, it seemed to have had an ageing and tatty fleet which did the company no credit at all.

I don't know whether it's a change of management, a change of attitude or both!
I remember riding on open-top Bristol VRs on the Newquay-Padstow route years ago, then First just seemed to really shrink at every opportunity, allowing the Western Greyhounds etc of this world in.
It seems to take the loss of a competitor to spur First into action - after the demise of WG in Cornwall First seems to have gone from sterngth to sterngth, and it didn't take much for the Buses of Somerset to see off Webberbus.
I've been pretty critical of First vehicle and operational policy over the years (which you may find slightly rich coming from someone who doesn't use public transport  ) but these cases show they can make a success of it.

Yes, they have really made an effort and I think they deserve to succeed.

We used their buses in and around Falmouth and Penzance several times when on holiday there in July. I was particularly pleased that they have a very handy sized timetable booklet covering all their services - quite easy to follow and easily obtainable to. An operator who doesn't expect visitors (and locals too for that matter) to just guess where and when their buses run.

As I'm off to Cornwall again next week, can anyone tell me if the 'Jersey' Darts have all made the trip to Scotland now? If they have I won't expect to see any!

When I went down to the Padstow to Bude section about 5 weeks ago, I rode on one, but it wasn't ex WR, and it may have gone north by now !

Thanks Rich. Well disappointingly I did absolutely no photography of any kind. Did have a good week though - not a drop of rain!
