Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) first introduced a Bromyard Market Day service running two return journeys on Thursday only between Bromyard, Crowels Ash, and Pencombe Church in the late 1920s.[Exact Date Needed] This route was operated as Service 299.
On Saturday 11th February 1928, BMMO renumbered their network and from this date the Bromyard to Pencombe route was operated as Service 415. This route number was one allocated to routes in the Worcester, Malvern and Evesham Districts, Yet Service 415 ran entirely within the County of Herefordshire which, in theory, had route numbers in the range 422–478. This was probably done because the route was operated by Worcester depot, with a bus from Worcester arriving in Bromyard on Service 414 shortly before the first Service 415 of the day departed. In the afternoon, the bus then returned to Worcester as Service 414 shortly after the 415 workings had finished for the day.
By the early 1940s, the route had been extended to run between Bromyard, Pencombe and Hereford, with journeys also being introduced on Wednesday and Saturday for Hereford's Market Day. However, the full route was only operated on Saturday, with Wednesday journeys running between Hereford and Pencombe, and Thursday journeys remaining as Bromyard to Pencombe only. Two return journeys on Thursday had been extended to run between Bromyard, Pencombe and Ullingswick by the summer of 1944, but otherwise the service remained uncharged until after the war when two additional return journeys between Hereford and Pencombe were introduced on Saturday.
By 1972, all of the Thursdays and Saturday journeys had been withdrawn, with only two return journeys between Hereford and Pencombe running on Wednesdays.
The service was withdrawn with the introduction of the “Wandaward” MAP scheme on Saturday 11th March 1978, and partly replaced by new Service H24, which ran on Fridays only, and new Service H25 running on Wednesdays only.
