I seem to remember a certain very experienced mechanic, who is unfortunately no longer with us, being really annoyed that Kidderminster based 263 was being sent for scrap as he said it was very clean underneath with no oil leaks and no visible corrosion internally or externally despite the grubby appearance. His main gripe was that the Worcester bodyshop were spending thousands of pounds at that time replacing every external stress panel on 550 which was also in much worse condition underneath than 263 after heavy usage at Digbeth garage between 1986 and 1990. The scrapping process seemed to be on age of the vehicle (date into service) rather than condition of the bus.
