I had the pleasure of driving this bus for four different companies, National Bus Midland Red West, Ken Mills' privatised Midland Red West, Keith Danks' independent Metrowest and West Midlands Travel Black Country Buses. For whatever reason it had been fitted with a high ratio back axle either before acquisition or by Metrowest, so it had a much higher top speed than with MRW, which was good working the 25 along Wolverhampton New Road, but hill climbing around Dudley was less than inspiring. The seats had by this time been re-covered with moquette in place of the dark red vinyl giving the bus a different feel all round. It ought to have 'gone like the wind' with the replacement Volvo engine - but I never found out as Metrowest was only a memory when WMT updated it.
