Service 40: Timetable Changes

On Saturday 23rd November 1985, Midland Red (West) Limited replaced all Worcester City Local bus services (using “Wâ€-prefix route numbers, first introduced in 1928) with a new Worcester Citibus network of services operated with high-frequency Mercedes-Benz L608D minibuses. On the same date there are a number of significant service changes throughout the operating area.
- Worcester Citibus Service 40 is introduced, running a circular route from Worcester City Centre (Angel Place) to Merrimans Hill, Rainbow Hill, Lansdowne and Worcester City Centre.

- Worcester Citibus Service 40 is re-routed to start at Worcester City Centre (The Cross) and run via St Oswald's Road, Chestney Walk, Flag Meadow Walk, and St Georges Lane North, to Merrimans Hill. From Merrimans Hill to City Centre, the route is unchanged.

Birmingham Bull Ring Bus StationShow All
On Sunday 1st November 1987, Midland Red West took over full control of the Bull Ring Bus Station from National Express. In an attempt to attract more traffic, from Saturday 30th January 1988 many Birmingham Local services were rerouted to start and terminate in the bus station. A number of other changes were also introduced from the same date.
- Birmingham and The Black Country Service 40 is renumbered to new Service 440 and extended from Bearwood via Hagley Road West, Wolverhampton Road South, West Boulevard, Quinton Road West, Quinton, and Kingsway to Brandhall. Times between Bearwood and Witton are unchanged.
1st September 1997
- New Service 40 is introduced, running between Worcester City Centre and Wood Green, Dugdale Drive. Seven return journeys are operated each day, Monday to Saturday.

Mid and South Worcestershire Network changesShow All
- Worcester Local Service 31 between Worcester City Centre and Newtown Hospital is withdrawn. A partial replacement is provided by Service 39 and Service 40, which are rerouted to serve Ronkswood Estate and Newtown Hospital, running every 20-minutes in each direction. Service 41 and Service 43 continue to run every 20-minutes giving a combined 10-minute frequency between the City Centre and the Hospital.
