Worcester Citibus Network Launched
On Saturday 23rd November 1985, Midland Red (West) Limited replaced all Worcester City Local bus services (using “Wâ€-prefix route numbers, first introduced in 1928) with a new Worcester Citibus network of services operated with high-frequency Mercedes-Benz L608D minibuses. On the same date there are a number of significant service changes throughout the operating area.
- “Midland Express†Service X5 (Birmingham and Redditch New Town) is extended to and from Redditch District Hospital, with journey times slightly adjusted.
- “Midland Express†Service X8 (Birmingham, Woodrow and Redditch) is extended to and from Redditch Town Centre and run via Redditch District Hospital, with journey times adjusted.
- Service X18 is renumbered to Service X35 and some journeys are extended to and from Halesowen via Romsley.
- Local Redditch Service R1 and Service R2 (Redditch and Batchley circular) have an improved frequency on Sundays, and minor adjustment to times on other days.
- Slight adjustment to times for local Redditch Service R3, Service R4, Service R5 and Service R6 (Redditch and Crabbs Cross circular group).
- New timetable for local Redditch Service R7 and Service R8 (Redditch and Matchborough circular) to provide a 6-minute frequency.
- New timetable for local Redditch Service R11 and Service R12 with a combined frequency of 15-minutes between Matchborough East and Redditch Town Centre.
- Service R17 is withdrawn.
- New timetable for local Redditch Service R18 with a 30-minute frequency during the daytime and additional journeys in the evening.
- Service R19 is withdrawn and partly replaced by new Service 246.
- Worcester Citibus Service 21 is introduced, running up to every 8-minutes between Worcester City Centre (The Cross), Ombersley Road, and Green Lane (Bus Terminus).
- Worcester Local Service W26 is withdrawn and replaced by new Worcester Citibus Service 26 and Service 27, running between Worcester City Centre (Angel Place) and Henwick Park (Monarch Drive). Service 26 operates throughout the day via Comer Road and Comer Gardens, while Service 27 operates via Henwick Road during the evenings and all day on Sunday.
- Worcester Citibus Service 35 is introduced, running every 8-minutes between Worcester City Centre (Angel Place), Rainbow Hill, Warndon, and Blackpole Village.
- Worcester Citibus Service 40 is introduced, running a circular route from Worcester City Centre (Angel Place) to Merrimans Hill, Rainbow Hill, Lansdowne and Worcester City Centre.
- Additional journeys on Service 133 (Kidderminster, Bromsgrove and Charford).
- Service 142 (Birmingham, Barnt Green and Redditch) is withdrawn. School journeys are replaced by new Service 149.
- For a three-month trial period, additional journeys will be offered between Charford and Bromsgrove on Service 143.
- New timetable for Service 144 (Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Droitwich Spa and Worcester) with additional short-working journeys to give a 15-minute frequency between Worcester and Droitwich Spa when interworked with Service 141 and Service 145.
- Service 145 is extended past Bromsgrove to Aston Fields, Stoke Heath, Stoke Prior, Stoke Works, Wychbold, Droitwich Spa and Worcester. Certain journeys run via Rock Hill, not Aston Fields as new Service 141.
- Minor timetable changes to Service 147 and Service 148 (Birmingham, Redditch and Astwood Bank/Studley).
- Service 150 (Redditch and Inkberrow) journey departing Redditch at 12:51 now runs 6-minutes later throughout the journey.
- New combined timetable for Service X8, Service 246, Service 247, Service 248 and Service 249 group of routes.
- Service 318 is extended past Redditch Town Centre to serve Redditch District Hospital, and is rerouted to run via Bromsgrove Road with Headless Cross and Mount Pleasant no longer served. Running times are slightly adjusted.
- Certain Service 335 journeys are extended to Redditch as new Service X35.
