Service 672: Service History

Introduction

Service 672

Service 672 was introduced by Newbury Coaches (Powell) of Ledbury on Friday 22nd May 1987, operating between Canon Frome, Upper Egleton, and Ledbury on Fridays only. The route was changed a number of times and from Friday 2nd April 1993 ran Ashperton, Newtown, Upper Egleton, Stretton Grandison, Canon Frome, Bishop's Frome, Castle Frome and Bosbury to Ledbury.

From Monday 5th September 1994 the route passed to Bromyard Omnibus Company and ran over a simplified route between Newtown and Ledbury via Upper Egleton, Stretton Grandison, Canon Frome and Ashperton.

DRM (Bromyard) Limited (“DRM bus”) operated the service after after Bromyard Omnibus Company ceased trading when the owner retired. The route now started in Bromyard and ran via Munderfield, Bishops Frome, Newtown, Stretton Grandison and Ashperton to Ledbury.

Service 672 (2017–2020)

Operated by First Midland Red Buses Limited

On Sunday 3rd September 2017, the contract to operate Service 672 passed to First Midland Red Buses Limited, for a period of seven-years. The route was the same as that previously operated by DRM (Bromyard) Limited (“DRM bus”), running between Bromyard, Munderfield, Bishops Frome, Newtown, Stretton Grandison, Ashperton and Ledbury, and was then extended to the new Aldi supermarket at New Mills. One return journey was offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

On Monday 14th May 2018, First introduced a number of changes to route operated as part of the Herefordshire contract. From this time, Service 672 was withdrawn on Mondays, but additional journeys between Ledbury and Bromyard were introduced on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Certain journeys were also changed to run as variation Service 671 or Service 673.

Service 672 was withdrawn from Monday 6th April 2020 along with the other Market Day services in Ledbury, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.
