Service 368: Service History

Service 368 (1938–1971)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

On Friday 1st July 1938, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) bought the business and operations of G. H. Burnham (trading as “Grey Coaches”) of Clifton Upon Teme. Grey Coaches operated a number of routes between Worcester and Tenbury, Ankerdine Hill, and Martley, and these were absorbed into the BMMO network with route numbers in the range 366–369.

Service 368 was introduced by BMMO on Friday 1st July 1938, to replace the ex-Grey Coaches route running between Worcester, Tinkers Cross, Berrow Green, and Ankerdine Hill. Initially, two return journeys ran on Wednesdays, and three return jouneys on Saturdays. These were supplemented by Service 369 on Thursdays and Saturdays, running between Worcester and Ankerdine Hill via Martley. On Sundays, there was a sole one-way journey to Ankerdine Hill running as Service 368, with the return journey to Worcester running as Service 369.

During the Second World War, Service 368 ran on Saturdays only, and Service 369 was withdrawn. After the war, Service 368 was re-introduced on other days of the week, but Service 369 did not return and that route number was later used for a service between Worcester and Stanford.

Service 368, Worcester and Ankerdine Hill was withdrawn on Saturday 3rd April 1971.
