Service 32A: Service History

Service 32A (2004–2005)

Operated by First Midland Red Buses Limited

On Monday 6th September 2004 First Midland Red Buses Limited introduced Service 32A, as a variation to the established Overground “Blue Line” Service 32. This service ran over the same route as Service 32 but was extended from St. Peter’s, Broomhall Green, to serve Norton Barracks. At the same time the existing Service 32 was extended to serve Kempsey and Baynhall. Each service ran with a 30-minutes frequency interworked to give an overall frequency of 15-minutes along Bath Road and St. Peter’s Drive.

In December 2004, the “Blue Line” route branding on Mercedes-Benz O.814 Vario fleet numbers 52518 and 52521 (registration numbers S518RWP and S521RWP) was changed to reflect the service changes, and an additional vehicle, fleet number 52517 (registration number S517RWP), also had the branding fitted.

Service 32A was not successful, and was withdrawn on Sunday 12th June 2005 due to poor patronage, after only nine months of operation. The frequency of Service 32 was increased from running every 30-minutes to every 20-minutes to partly replace buses along Bath Road and St. Peter’s Drive.
