Service 315: Service History

Service 315 (1928–1977)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

On Saturday 11th February 1928, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) renumbered their entire network of services and at this time Service 232 running between Worcester, Kidderminster, and Stourbridge became Service 315 for journeys that ran via Blakedown and Hagley, and Service 316 for the journeys that ran via Broadwaters and Norton.

During the 1930 Summer Season, certain journeys were extended to Dudley and Wolverhampton as Service X15, with a minimum fare in operation. This variation of the route had been withdrawn by December 1930.

By 1938, most Service 315 journeys had been extended at the Stourbridge end of the route to start and finish in Dudley, and these journeys ran as new Service 345. Likewise, most Service 316 journeys had also been extended to Dudley as Service 346. This extension to the route was short-lived, and all journeys returned to running only between Stourbridge and Worcester by June 1940, as Service 315 and Service 316.

Service 316 had been withdrawn by 1972, but Service 315 continued in operation until Friday 4th November 1977 when it was withdrawn and replaced the following day by Service 303, as part of their “Wendaway” Viable Network Project (VNP).
