Service W14 was introduced by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) as part of the new Worcester local bus network on Friday 1st June 1928. The service ran every 30-minutes Monday to Saturday, and end every hour on Sunday, between The Cross in Worcester City Centre and the junction with Martley Road on Henwick Road.
This route was withdrawn in c. 1939 and replaced by new Service W29, which ran along the same route as Service W14 but continued to Hallow Village. The route number W14 was later reused for a new local Worcester route to the factories on Blackpole Road.
In the early 1940s, the route number W14 was reused by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) for a new local Worcester service between the City Centre (St Nicholas Street) and the James Archdale and Co factory on Blackpole Road. Buses ran every 20-minutes, Monday to Saturday, with no service during the evenings or on Sunday. The route was an extension to Service W5 that turned right at the W5 terminus into Brickfields Road, under the railway bridge, then left into Blackpole Road. The W14 terminus was at the loop on the Field Road junction that today forms Pine Way.
Given the nature of the work carried out at factories in the area, it is highly likely this service was introduced as a direct result on the outbreak of the Second World War, and the need to transport large numbers staff to and from the factory for increased wartime production. The only housing in that are at that time were the occasional scattered cottages and farm houses. The service maintained a 20-minute frequency throughout the wartime period without any Sunday workings, but by the end of the war an evening service had been introduced Monday to Saturday.
By the late 1940s, a Sunday service had been introduced, running every 20-minutes during the late morning and afternoon, reduced to every 30-minutes in the evening. With new housing developments in the area, the service continued until c. 1967, when BMMO reorganised their Rainbow Hill group of services. At this time, Service W15 was rerouted to run along the same route as Service W14, but then continue along Blackpole Road to Bilford Road and follow an anti-clockwise loop along Bilford Road and Field Road, back to Blackpole Road. The new Service 15 ran every 20-minutes, inter-worked with Service W25 to give a 10-minute frequency over Rainbow Hill, which was sufficient to make Service W5 and Service W14 redundant, and both were withdrawn.
