33404 - Last Upton

Due to delays caused by traffic in and around Worcester on Thursday, a request was brought forward from despatch to cover the 1740 journey of Service 333 to Upton-upon-Severn as the bus originally allocated to this had been severely delayed earlier in the afternoon and its continued delay were to have serious impacts on the punctuality of this service.

The vehicle I had been allocated for my original duty had been ALX400-bodied Dennis Trident 33404 (VX54 MUA) and was the only vehicle available to operate the service punctually at that time.

I couldn't help but stop and capture her at the turning point in Upton before running back dead to the garage after the successful, and punctual, operation of a journey which is otherwise chiefly operated by Wright StreetLite Max examples.

I happened to be passing on the 1750 Service 363 to Tewkesbury while the Trident was parked in that lay-by. I remember thinking to myself, I bet he's stopped for photos!

I would have got confused if I had seen a DD on that southbound working !
- I have never managed to get a southbound DD ride along the A38 to Upton.

Before the service cuts of April 2016, - and when WR had an additional two DDs, - I did see a DD on a northbound working of the 332 - just the once !!
- I don't know if the driver missed-out Earls Croome village, as there are a lot of trees close to the road !

A long time ago, Astons used a DD on a school contract to and from Upton via Kinnersley and leaving/joining the main road at Baynhall.

(Thanks, Red Midland ! )
