Some lovely pictures and pure nostalgia. Reminds me of many Saturday trips to Cheltenham in the 1960's to watch the arrivals and departures at the coach station from and to all over the country.

Did anyone travel along the A38 between Wychbold and the M5 on Sunday afternoon/evening?

I was on the way back to Wakefield from Cheltenham and as we were passing Worcester on the M5, 1006 decided she wanted to go home (Padmore Street, I guess) and applied her parking brake. I managed to get into one of the "refuges" (no hard shoulder!).

There was a serious air leak with the parking brake off but it built up air OK with the brake on so I suspected a burst air pipe. I built up the air and got off the M5 and on to the A38 PDQ.

I contacted the breakdown people and they asked if I wanted recovery or roadside assistance. I chose assistance, hoping for an "old timer" who could do a "bodge" to get me home but they sent out a young lad who asked me where the port was for him to plug his laptop into.....

So, recovery it was!

The fault turned out to be in an air splitter block that includes an over-pressure release valve and it was this valve that had failed.

Once home, a new block and an hour's labour saw 1006 back in action ready for the Redbeck Rally on Sunday.

An unfortunate end to a great weekend but very strange how she chose where to come to a standstill. Spooky!

You should have come across and said hello!

I didn't say anything on here as I thought you'd post something yourself if you wanted it to be known that 1006 had had an unfortunate breakdown.I was fearing something major as I saw you twice at around 3.30pm and again about 8.30pm when the recovery truck was there.Glad it wasn't something too serious and you've managed to get her fixed quite swiftly.
