A complete turnaround

Post by bmmoboy » 16:59 Tuesday 25th June 2024

After all the changes lately, with Vehicles arriving from all parts of the country, the depot expected to become 100% Streetlite and Deck, the latest news is that all the Wrightbus buses are going away, mainly to South Wales, to be replaced by E200’s, E300’s and E400’s. The plan is to do the transfers, 2 vehicles per week, subject to an acceptance check when buses arrive. These moves are to make Swansea’s vehicles suitable for use in their City in the ULEZ zone. As Worcester Council has no plans for a similar scheme, we will be getting non Euro 6 compliant vehicles. I am hoping to see the last of the Streetlites gone before I retire (now 118 working days and counting)!

Thanks for that update bmmoboy !

As you will see at the above link, Worcester city council supposedly has a plan to help upgrade public transport emissions !

I have watched for further news since they had a meeting on June 6th, but, surprise, surprise, it's gone quiet -- -- with the general election days away, is there something in the "AQAP" that voters won't like ? :D

Electric bikes for hire have appeared at the top of my street, so bus drivers will have to share road space with us very-shaky pensioners with dementia, - on bicycles !!

Just seen 3 E400 deckers heading south , M5 / J5 . Looked like SN14xxx registration’s. Should fit nicely with in the Worcester fleet profile . 😉

Thanks for the tip-off, Andrew.
Two have just been added to the bustimes list for Worcester, -- so that's our two buses IN for this week !!

Four more coming on Saturday, according to a reliable man on Facebook !

I hope VERY MUCH that the company will spare no expense in bringing all these "up to speed" during the school holiday !!

"Goodbye StreetDecks"

Bustimes have 6 similar d/d's still with FSY . . . . . . Interestingly , they still have plenty of 07 plate Volvo / Wright d/d's still in service . :?

33860 and 33867 appear to be in decent mechanical condition as both [according to Bustimes] have put a full shift in today. 8-)

I drove 33864 on Friday and I am impressed. Slightly better performance than a StreetDeck, very smooth gearbox - and NO RATTLES!!!!
At least 4 more appeared today, and on Monday and every day this week, 2 StreetLites will be exchanged with 2 Enviro 200s from South Wales. We will mostly be receiving 200s, most of them in Swansea’s red livery, so we will be back to being Midland Red for some time.
A rumour, from a very good source, states that Worcester will end up with around 15 deckers, working 144s, 44’s and an enhanced X50 service, which is to become a 30 minute service for much of the day, as well as schools. This should please DD12!

Yes indeed, thanks bmmoboy !

If there is an increased need for DDs at First Worcester from September, I will be well pleased !!
I will watch with interest to see if we keep some StreetDecks (especially 35156-59) !

:)
