Stopping to enjoy the view or did Ankerdine kill it?

Enjoying the view
It went up the hill quite well. Certainly better than the Nationals used to on the old Service 424.

If it had stalled, would it have pulled away again ?
I followed one of Rogers Coaches, ex-Midland Red Coaches MCW double-decker coaches up Ankerdine hill on one occasion, and it maintained at least 20 MPH all the way up !
(I think they may not have any DDs now).

I case anyone missed it, this is why the 420 was off route...

Hmmm... See if you can guess how old I happened to be when I stopped for a photograph atop Mucklow Hill during the first rendition of Service 147.
If memory serves me right, that would've been my second ascent up that climb that day. Certainly preferred it over negotiating my way through the back of Hayley Green at least.

Pure guess 14 and 7 = 21 years.
As for the Hayley Green route; not for the faint hearted driver - very scary from the passenger seat too!

Just found this while looking for something else...
It shows the Padmore Street bus park on 7th June 2006, just after the nice new tarmac had been finished, but before the white lines were painted for the parking bays.
Also shows, looking rather out of place, 67242 still in red and cream livery.

I was just about to say "that view seems-like quite a long time ago now" - then I did my sums .... - OMG !!
- I am "rocketing towards my coffin"

38123 and 38124 seen on 29th August 2008 in Worcester depot body shop. With the end of "The Green Bus" contract both were now withdrawn and are seen having the Green Bus graphics removed before being sold to First Northampton.

A quiet morning in Birmingham, Saturday 3rd November 2007.
Almost ten years ago... I'm feeling old!
