The End of WR's StreetDecks

Post by DD12 » 16:51 Wednesday 31st July 2024

35156,57 have apparently gone to Weston, and 35159 to Hengrove, leaving just 35154,58, +68 at Worcester.

That means 35156,57,+59 have spent approx 8 years 10.5 months, from new, at WR, whereas -
of the last previous new double deckers for WR - (6092-96) - -
6093 stayed the longest, and did approx 8 years 11.5 months, from new at WR, so I think 35158 will need to stay the whole of August to equal that :D

(In 1967, six months before 6092-96, we received 6046-55 (also new), of which 6052 stayed the longest and did approx 9 years and 6 months).

I thought you would all like to know that !!

I assume 35158 also becomes the last bus new to Worcester?

Well, if bustimes.org is to be relied on, they have now ALL GONE !!

Their list for WR still shows 35152, but that never ran for WR and is probably at Wright's new "works" in Bicester being converted to battery-electric (NOT for use at WR).

Also, we are back down to just 9 DDs (Enviro400s) and despite a rumour of more to come, my bet is that we will start the new school year with just 9, - - of which 3 or 4 will be "broken"!
(and not even 1 extra to cover repaints into the new livery)
Hope I'm wrong !

I believe the PVR for double-decks will be about 15.

I often "study" new timetables / services for the potential use of DDs, and having done my amateur assessment again for September 2024 it came out as possibly 6 more, - which makes 15 ! --
-- but seeing will be believing !

The Bristol division are moving DDs about and I could imagine us getting some more E400s, (but not MMCs).

Not now, but in the future, I would love to ride a DD on the Clifton Corridor services (but not when school kids are the main passengers) -- That's not too far-fetched when you remember that Rogers of Martley used ex-Midland Red Coaches DDs on school contracts.

I was on the Clifton Corridor today, and there is no way a decker could operate on this service. The trees, especially around Ham Bridge, are extremely low, and my E200 was hitting quite a few of them. If a decker is operated, it will soon find its way to Weston-super-Mud, on their open top service!

Thanks very much bmmoboy for that info, -- that will stop me getting disappointed every time those services are revised !! :(

Well, at least one more DD will arrive today according to bustimes.org.

It's an E400 from Bath, and is in the same batch as our other ones -- 33862 SL14 DFK.

Those of us who are ancient will remember that the FK registration mark was polific on our local roads as it was the mark for the City of Worcester !
